Marie LERICHE

Essaouira (Morocco) - Paris (France)

 

   After studying fashion design at the Studio Berçot in Paris, she starts her artistic career as the assistant of Kazuko Yoneda, developing in parallel her own line, and learns graphic arts in different private workshops.

 

In 1998, she moves to Hyères where she builds a mural decoration business with her ex-husband (Le Comptoir de la Chaux) and she works the traditional techniques of venetian stucco, mural frescoes, and many others. By appropriating this know-how on various formats and materials supports, she creates abstract and unique pieces, in an aesthetic halfway between East and West.

 

From 2004 to 2010, she exhibits her work in different south of France galeries, but also at the Salon des indépendants and at Galerie Monod in Paris, as well as in Shanghai during the Universal Exhibition of 2010.

During the four following years, she puts aside her plastic mediums dedicating herself to the poetic form of haïku. A trip to Japan feeds theses researches, and then she translates the essence of this writing rhythm in her art.

 

 

In 2014, she moves to Essaouira. Inspired by the richness of the land and moroccan culture, Marie goes back to her tarpaulins, her pigments, and launches a new creative approach. Her current work, mainly oriented around the study of light, was selected in 2016 during the first edition of the Nuits Photographiques in Essaouira. Marie presented the rest of her work during her exhibition « Circle » at the Institut Français Of Essaouira as well as the Institut Français Of Meknès in february 2018, giving rise to a residence.

 

Since 2016, Marie gives carte blanche to her daughter Alizée, composer, for the direction of the soundtracks, which accompany the video projects of a modern oneirism.

 

In 2018, Marie goes back to France, to reconnect with the heritage and know-how of her ancestors and projecting them in a contemporary perspective.
