CIRCLE

CIRCLE, Mixtes techniques (acrylic and thuyas on linen tarpaulin), 5,9 x 5,9 ft
In this project, I try to account for my encounter with the powerful nature of the Berber country : a mixture of elements made of sand, argan trees and cedar. This lively and colored population, as well as the local know-how, provoke in me an aesthetic shock. There is something indefnable in this country, which immediately appeals to me. To translate this emotion, I choose the circle. It is by defnition the perfect form. It is a protective matrix, it is our Earth, it is Life. It is to be found in all the arts and crafts.
Patiently, I choose small pieces of cedar. I fle them, adjust them and glue them. It will take me four months to realize the rosette of the large piece. After an experimental period of the line in three brush strokes, which I call haiku gestural, I return to a slow process. The repetition of the gesture and the silence transport me into another space time. I improvise. I appropriate the Berber alphabet and integrate it into the work. On traditional sieves, I make embroidery with wood. Each piece is unique, each piece is a mandala.
I pay tribute to my grandmother who used her "circle" to embroider every day, she very early awakened me to the notion of "Beautiful". I still remember her magnifcent patterns made from multicolored silk threads, gold and silver, on silk or organdi, that delighted the child I was. This work also pays tribute to the crafts of Art of the Middle East.
Work presented at the French Institute of Essaouira and at the French Institute of Meknès during personal exhibitions (12.16 - 01.17 and 02.18).
